TRAINING: Home Performance
CBPCA HERS
Providership
This series will include the three-day HERS Basic Certification Training class and day 1 of the two-day HERS II Certification Training. Students may enroll in either one or both classes.
Day 2 of the HERS II class will be bundled with the make-up day that is required because the California Energy Commission (CEC) has not yet certified HERS providers or the class curriculums for the new 2008 Standards. See Important Notes below, for more information.
Pre-registration is required. Please view our course schedules and register online or call the HERS Training hotline at: 888-931-1116. Your confirmation will be e-mailed to you along with the address and times of the training.
The CBPCA HERS Basic Certification Training provides the classroom and field training required to qualify as a California Field Verification and Diagnostic Testing Rater under the new 2008 Standards. This course will qualify successful participants for rating new and existing homes for Title 24 field verifications and testing homes for utility HVAC incentive programs.
It will also provide:Note that completion of the Basic HERS class does not constitute legal certification as a HERS rater. Please see the 2008 HERS Basic Certification Training page for a complete description of this class and other requirements for legal certification.
The CBPCA HERS II Certification training provides two days of classroom training. The first day provides an extensive survey of Title 20 HERS II regulations and the practices and procedures required to gather the information to construct a HERS II audit. A CEC required exam will be presented at the end of day 1. The second day, which will be offered at a later date, is essentially an introduction to the Energy Pro compliance software which is used to develop a HERS II home energy audit. It is important to note that proficiency in building the computer models which are basic to the EnergyPro software will require extensive practice using EnergyPro and/or additional training classes.
Note that while completion of a Basic HERS class is not a prerequisite for the HERS II class, successful completion of a 2008 Basic HERS class is required to be certified as either a Whole- house Home Energy Rater or a Building Performance Contractor. Official definitions of the various professional certifications named in Title 20 can be found here.
If you have questions about the class or the registration process, or if you have technical questions about the state regulations or the job of a HERS Rater, you can call our HERS Training Hot Line at 888-931-1116.
Important Note: The California Energy Commission is currently evaluating the applications for recertification and the course curriculums of all HERS Providers as required by the 2008 Building Energy Efficiency Standards. The CEC has ruled that a Provider cannot certify raters to work under the 2008 Standards until both the Provider and the Provider’s curriculum are approved and certified. Therefore, if the CBPCA’s application and curriculum are not approved by the time a class takes place, it will be necessary for all students to take a half-day make-up class and to take the CEC approved exam. The CBPCA will offer these make-up classes as soon as we get approvals from the CEC and will make them very affordable.
